The Tiger Rising

We have been reading a book in class called 'Tiger Rising'. Its about a boy growing up in a small town in America. We wrote character descriptions for some of the main characters. Hope you like them.

By Dane
Rob is a very Lonely boy that moved from Kentucky to Florida. His Ma died six months ago. He gets bullied in school all day, everyday! They call him disease boy because he has rashes on both legs. The bullies are Billy and Northan Threemonger, Jason, Uttimeir and Sistine Baily.

A prediction by Shane
I predicted in Chapter two that when the boy and Sistine both go into the woods and see the tiger, Sistine would go back into the woods and let the Tiger free and ride it through the woods.

Character description by Ben
Robert Horton is a single parent. He is a poor man with no money. His wife died so he and his son find it hard. They live in the 'Kentucky star Motel' and Robert does not get paid much money because his boss lets him live there with his son. He finds life hard because he had a good life in Jacksonville but had to move to Florida to forget about his wife who died. Now all he cares for is his son Rob. He wants him to be happy and healthy.

Character description by Scott
Robert Horton is a single parent as his wife died. Robert is a broken hearted man living in a run down place and not getting paid. His son Rob does not like the food that he makes for him because he is used to his mums food. Robert is worried about his son.

My prediction by Brandon
I predict that Rob shows Sistine the tiger. But when Sistine asked where the tiger is , Norton and Billy Threemonger might follow them into the woods. When Rob and Sistine aren't looking, Norton and Billy might hit the tiger with stones.

Character description by David
Rob is skinny and shy and he bottles up his feelings sometimes because his Mum died. He saw a tiger in the woods and this helps him forget his problems and hides his feelings. Sometimes he goes into a world of his own when he is bullied by Norton and Billy because he has a raw rash on his legs.

My prediction by Callum
I predict that when they go into the forest looking for the tiger Sistine gob smacks Robert and it is his first kiss! xx

Character description by Cian

Description of the motel room by Nathan

The motel looks like there was a bomb in it. It is dirty. I think the door is red and the chairs are ment to be red but they are black with the dirt! I love the story. I never seen a dirty motel like that. They dont have a tv and I think the room is dark.

Crazy Christmas By Damien

It was the 24th of December in the North Pole. It was cold, snowy and icy. Santa was making toys in a huge factory with a Statue of Santa in it. He had no fruit so he had to go to the shop. He found a funny shaped fruit. It looked like a mouse. It was mixed black, blue, red and yellow. He bought it for a taste. As soon as he came back to the workshop he gave the elves a bit of it. The elves and Santa went mad.On Christmas Eve Santa wasn't going to give out presents. They destroyed Christmas and ripped presents. But the one thing that would make children happy was Presents. The fruit was losing effect and everything was going back to normal. Santa realised that he forgot to give out presents. So off he went "HO HO HO. Merry Christmas". Everyone was delighted, even adults were, because of the presents that Santa gave them.

The Magic Fairy

Once upon a time, there was a woman that really wanted to get married. There was one problem: she was too poor. Then, a few days later, a magic fairy appeared and said to the woman "I will grant you one wish". The woman wished that she had enough money for the wedding and the reception.

"Absolutley!" said the fairy.

That December, she had a lovely wedding.

The End.

Royal Wedding

The day that the Royal Wedding was on, Prince William and Kate Middleton were getting married. It was October and my favourite movie was on so I grabbed the remote and tuned in to my favourite movie. My ma said "Hey! I wanted to watch that!".

I said, "There will be plenty of replays". So I kicked back and enjoyed some delicious ice-cream. By Jonathan D

Arsenal's Greatest: Transferred!

There is this team called Arsenal, which became a noticed team in 1945 during the end of World War II. In 1955 Arsenal bought their best ever tranfer player, Liam Brady.

He was allowed join on a free deal from Southampton. On July 1992, Arsenal bought a young Dutchman called Denis Bergkamp. He was from Amsterdam and was bought from AJAX.

In 2004, Arsenal bought a Spanish magician called Cesc Fabregas, he came from Barcelona. I think Arsenal are the best team in the world... way better than United. Don't you agree????

Scared

One day, my sister was playing in her room when she saw a spider.

She got a big scare and shouted "Leon! Leon!"

So I ran in and said "What are you shouting for?"

She cried, "I've seen a bug!"

I answered, "It's a fly, not a bug or a spider, silly! Leave it alone and it can't hurt you."

The River Race

Once upon a time, I was in school. My teacher said to me that the class was going kayaking tomorrow and I was really excited. When I went home I told my mum. She said "are you excited?" I said "yes! very excited".

After a while I asked my mum would she get my shoes for the morning. I got dressed to go to school. When I got to school, everyone was talking about kayaking. Eventually, it was time to go on the bus. When I got on, I discovered that we were kayaking in Howth - this was a surprise!

When we arrived, each of us got a kayak. We were having great fun. I was splashing in the water with my friends.

Then suddenly, my teacher said we were all going down to a small river. So we got out and headed down to the source of the river where we were going to have a river race. Soon, it was my turn and I was playing my friend John. I started off and went my fastest... I won!! I had a fantastic feeling.

The next day my mum said we are going on holiday for my birthday next month .I could not wait.

The next month flew by and it was just a day to go. I was playing games all day. When I went to bed I had an awful dream but when I woke up I was really excited!

I got dressed and we drove to the airport, then we got on an airplane. When we arrived at the hotel, the first thing I did was go down to the pool. I had the best time of my life on holiday!

Cian Joyce's Story

(the spelling are highlighted in red)

One day inside a hospital, a team of surgeons had a patient that needed a special procedure. It was so rare that they needed special tools from New York University Hospital. But before the surgery, the surgeons had a football match. 'Who ever scores the first goal makes the first incision', they decided.
Dr. O' Neil won, and at five o' clock, the chief surgeon had to request a new box of gloves outside the door of the O.R.
Eventually, the sugery started. While Dr. O' Neil was making the incision, the team was waiting for a referee because it was a special situation.
Later on in the surgery, the patient's heart stopped beating so the surgeons had to respond by preforming C.P.R. Finally, the patient started breathing again.
Within the hour, the surgery was complete and the surgeon celebrated in the hospital garden.

The Emirates

It was a beautiful day in July and I felt like I could anything but I couldn't because it was my dad's birthday.
I forgot to but him a present so I had a good think about it when something incredible happened!
I found out that you could but two Arsenal tickets for €50!
I bought them and went home and showed him the tickets and he let out a loud scream.
My dad said the Emirates was the coolest place on earth. The environment was electric in the stadium. We went to the shop and then we bought loads of Arsenal stuff.

The Visitor

One night, my sister was babysitting me. She told me I could get any thing to eat. Then we heard a knock on the door.

I was a strange man.

My sister told me to go back inside because she had to protect me.

The next day, when we woke up, Emma and I told my da there was a wierd creature at the door last night.

It was a freaky evening!

My Birthday

One day, it was my birthday. My mum told me that I could go any place for my birthday.

So, I told my mum that I wanted to go to the zoo. The next day, we went to the zoo and there, I heard a strange sound. It sounded like a creature trying to protect it's baby.

Soon, I had to go home because the zoo was closing.

When I got home, I had some dinner and cake. It was lovely!

The Poor Creatures

I heard that two people said they wouldn't protect a helpless, strange creature.

Then I thought to myself... Would I do that to any creature??

Our Stories

We are beginning to try and improve our vocabulary and story-telling. Here's a piece that Ade wrote using loads of interesting openers!

I got up early in the morning, had my breakfast and eventually we went to the airport. We were going to Egypt!!! It took ages and finally we got there. Firstly, we went to our hotel and soon we went on our first visit of the day.

We got on a bus and soon we were driving through the Sahara Desert and then we spotted the pyramid! Later, we got off the bus and stood outside the pyramids. There were camels and sand everywhere!

After a while, it started to rain heavily. I got stuck in the sand! Then I remembered what I had read about quick sand:

Number 1: Don't panic

Number 2: Tell someone to get a rope

Number 3: Don't struggle.

At last, I got out and enjoyed the rest of the trip!

Jackie Chan

I was sent off in a football match last May. It was in the preliminary round of the Scott Pierce Cup. Some might say it was an innocent tackle. Others say it was like a clip from a Kung Fu film.

Crime and Punishment

I joined the police force in June. I was very good but my manager said "You would not be able to go and arrest someone". However, a few weeks later, I got a job to investigate a robbery and when I got there, there was nothing wrong!

So, I went into the local shop and siad to an old man "I am an officer. I got a report of a robbery".

The man said, "Oh yes. There were a few kids in the shop and they robbed some licourice".

So I sighed and told the old man "I'll get on it right away".

When I caught the kids, I made them pay for the licourice and I went back and said "I QUIT!"

The seargent said "No, I'm sorry for all of that. I'll get you another assignment".

I said "Alright. But it better be good!".

I went and I got on it. It was a bank that got robbed and I single-handedly caught the robbers and I arrested them.

The man who owned all the money got it back and then he gave me an award. It was in the Sunday Newspaper! It said "Local Police Officer Caught Bank Robbers and Earned BIG REWARD".

The Island
by Evan Pierce

We could hear the cry of a wolf. We knew it was a wolf by the long, howling cry it was making. We were starnded on an island a thousand miles from home.We wetre on our way to holidaying in North America when the boat we were on sank. Five of us swam to shore. We mad a camp straight away and got a fire going.

It wasn't long before night came and all the noises on the island began. Whenthe morning came we walked. We walked all aound the island. Survival would be tough, but we knew if we wnated to see our homes again we would have to be brave and tough. There could be a jungle on the island with many creatures and many adventures to share with you...

Our Stories

Here are our Monday Spellings: Granny, Each, Language, Character and Gorgeous.

Here are some of the stories we wrote for homework!!

“I met this gorgeous girl where my Granny lives. Each day, we go on romantic walks. She is from Sweden so there is a bit of a language problem. I have to say, she is a real character!
By Paul Kinlan.

“My Granny is a real character. Every Sunday, she bakes gorgeous cakes and gives us all one each. One Sunday, she burned all the cakes and her language was disgraceful!”
By Jack Kenna

“My Granny is very good. When we go to see her, she always gives us some sweets and some biscuits. She is like my nanny. My nanny is a great character. She plays with us and sings songs for us all the time. When she is going out, she always looks gorgeous. She has lovely clothes. She does not like to hear kids saying bad language. She likes us to be kind to each other.
That’s my nanny and my granny for you!”
